It has been a hugely busy time here in Copperfields; it feels as though there’s a different Industry Award Event almost every week right now! I can’t tell you how exciting it has been following our talented team members as they move from one prestigious competition to another, representing the salon at the highest national level.
Fiona did her own rounds of these awards some twenty years ago and at the time we thought that it was the most thrilling professional experience that there was to be had! However, it has to be said, watching our team grow and develop into top level industry contenders competing to enjoy their own moment in the spotlight has beaten that hands down. We are so proud of everyone!
It got me to thinking about how fortunate we are to have the team that we do. There are twenty-four of us in total now and everyone brings their own unique energy to the salon. We seem to chat a LOT about the full-time members who are still at that exciting, thrilling stage of entering awards and enjoy Sundays out at events with the Artistic Team. Glammed up in front of a L’Oreal Wall makes for perfect Facebook photographs!
But I can’t help feeling that sometimes we need a little reminder as to why our young stylists and apprentices coming up are so ready and so well prepared. Why do our team have such a fantastic record of success?
Well, it’s because they have been trained and nurtured by stylists who have been there, done that, bought the styling t-shirt! These are the seniors and principals who have been with us for ten, fifteen, almost twenty years and who lead by example every day that they step through the doors.
Many of this experienced team are now part-time, fitting in two or three days around family commitments. We’ve recently welcomed back Karen Westwaters and Karen Neil who are both doing two days a week and together bring two decades of Copperfields styling between them! Alex, Carol-Anne, Susan – and Fiona! – all combine busy family lives with two or three days each in the salon.
When you reach this stage in your life and career, you may not find yourself in the big industry spotlight quite as often, but to us these guys are the reason we can embrace and encourage the vibrant, youthful confidence of our junior stylists and apprentices.
We celebrate twenty years this year, and when I look back over our time in business I realise that it was the hard work, dedication and loyalty of these team members that allowed us to build a strong foundation upon which to grow. Fiona and I wanted to create a salon that would consistently deliver high levels of expertise, customer care and fantastic products and because of the people involved, I’m proud to say I think we’ve all made this happen.
Together, we have evolved into a great salon with big plans (keep your eye out for our twenty year celebrations coming soon!) and the kind of reputation Fiona and I could only dream about when we opened the doors to South Methven Street back in 1995.
So, quite simply, this blog is a big Thank-You to all of our team; each and every person is vitally important to what we do and we feel extremely lucky to have them all as part of Team Copperfields.
